Dear INCOE, Recently we were faced with a situation involving a competitor’s hot runner system failing beyond repair, requiring immediate action. The tool was a “take-over” tool that our company acquired about 10 months prior. Our company is a tier 2 supplier to Ford Motor Company. The situation was very frustrating on many levels, and shutting down a Ford assembly line seemed likely. Once we determined the competitor’s hot runner system was un-repairable, Incoe was contacted. The MAPP organization has been extremely helpful for my organization to continuously improve with networking, achieving our cost reduction targets, and benchmarking of fellow MAPP members. We recently had an issue securing a European grade resin due to a sudden and dramatic increase in demand from our biggest customer. Unfortunately, this specific resin is “made to order” with a long lead time and we were at serious risk of not only severely impacting our production lines, but also our customers production lines and their delivery times to their customers. That was when we reached out to the MAPP community for help. We asked if anyone in the MAPP community had this resin on hand for purchase. The alert was sent out late on a Thursday and by Friday morning, we could not believe the overwhelming response we received from the MAPP community. By late Friday morning, we not only had secured the needed amount of resin but we were able to have it shipped directly to us in time without any disruption in production.
