The MAPP Young Professionals Book Club is a community for people within the YP Network who want to learn how to become more effective and productive manufacturing professionals while reading, networking, and participating in group discussions. We are a community for thoughtful conversation and meaningful connections to help everyone improve themselves and their businesses.

Theme: Innovation and Change Management

Book Chosen: Leading Change, John Kotter - Eight-step process for managing change with positive results has become the foundation for leaders and organizations across the globe. By outlining the process every organization must go through to achieve its goals, and by identifying where and how even top performers derail during the change process, Kotter provides a practical resource for leaders and managers charged with making change initiatives work.

Our first virtual meeting will be on January 24th at 3 p.m. Central Time. The meeting will cover the first four sections of Leading Change (Pages 1-68).

Guiding questions for our discussion:

1. Did any specific examples or quotes resonate with you in particular?
2. When have you experienced a good manager that was a bad leader or vice versa? What did you do to work with that person more effectively?
3. Are there any sources of complacency particularly strong in the Plastics Industry?
4. Which ways of raising urgency do you think are most effective and why?
5. How do Guiding Coalitions change depending on smaller and bigger companies?
6. What steps can you take to prevent the wrong people from being on the Guiding Coalition?

During the meeting, everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts, opinions, personal experiences and takeaways from what has been read so far.
